FAQ - Frequently Asked
Questions
Does it really
work?
In short, a resounding yes. I
know it's very different from anything you might have heard of
before, but it really really does. (Just look at the
testimonials!) Put it this way - if you do what you've
always done, you get what you always got. So to get something
different, you need to do something different - and there's no
denying this is different!
Does it
hurt?
No. It's very gentle.
Occasionally one of the tapping points will be a bit tender,
but if that's the case you just tap more gently on that point.
Tenderness is actually a good sign as it means it's a really
good point for that issue - so we just tap for longer, but more
gently. Indeed, if it's VERY tender we can just touch it until
the tenderness passes and not tap at all.
Are there any
side-effects?
No. Well, sometimes while
you're doing the Tapping Process you can have sighs, yawns,
tummy rumblings, and burps. This is a sign that the process is
working. So if you call that a side-effect, then yes. But in
the normal meaning of the word, i.e. problems associated with
using it, then no.
Do you have to believe
in it for it to work?
No. It is absolutely NOT
faith-healing and requires no belief. It works on babies and
animals which is proof that it's not somebody's belief which is
doing it.
I do ask that you keep an open
mind on it, because if you come in determined that it
won't work, then it probably won't, and you'll have the
satisfaction of proving yourself right - but you'll still have
your issue.
If I heal from that
crime too easily, isn't that just saying it was a minor thing
they did to me?
This is a totally
understandable reaction, but it is based on an assumption that
the severity of the crime depends on your continued suffering.
We can use the EFT Tapping Process on that concern and not even
try to heal the original trauma until you realise that the
crime is horrendous regardless of how quickly you
heal.
Think of it this way: Australia used to take
literally months to get to, but now we can get there in less
than a day. That doesn't mean that Australia is any nearer than
it used to be (just as the horrendous crime isn't any 'less'
than it used to be) - it just means we have tools to get there
quicker.
A similar issue can arise
when a crime victim identifies with being a crime victim -
in other words, feels that that is part of her identity. Again,
we'd use the EFT Tapping Process on that issue before moving
on.
I cannot bear to be
touched. How can the EFT Tapping Process help me in that
case?
As a practitioner I much
prefer to tap on the client as it means they can concentrate on
their healing rather than on trying to concentrate on tapping
as well. But it works just as well - just a bit more slowly
maybe - if the client taps on themselves as I guide
them.
If it's so good, why isn't it better
known?
It is becoming better known all the
time. But I grant you that it's not that well known.
This could be for several reasons.
Many people are slow to try anything new - do
you remember how we all sneered at the idea of life-coaching
when we first heard it? And I'm old enough to remember scoffing
at that mad American concept of therapy/counselling when it was
first introduced in Ireland.
Some people will decide not to try it because
they think it sounds so silly - and I can understand that,
because it DOES sound silly - and so they never learn how
good it is and so never talk about it. Also a lot of people who
use EFT do so for very private issues, and so don't want to
talk about it.
I suppose the question is this - if you're
reading this, you are probably carrying a trauma. Do you want
to automatically assume EFT doesn't work, in which case you'll
carry on as you always have been. Or will you be willing to try
something different - again, read all the testimonials - and heal your
trauma?
